Although our last "on the verge" update was just a week ago (7/1/24), we ended up 'hitting' on 4 players (Parker Meadows, James Outman, James Wood and Brooks Lee), and are already in need of an update! So here goes:
Coby Mayo 3B BAL (285 AAA PAs in 2024, .309 Avg, 1.044 OPS, .341 ISO, 4.3 Spd, .442 wOBA, 161 wRC+) [Coby should have ALREADY been called up. But he's as close to a sure thing as anyone.]
2. Jacob Wilson SS OAK (180 AA/AAA PAs, 7.2% K rate, .461 Avg, 1.225 OPS, .269 ISO, 3.6 Spd, .539 wOBA, 221 wRC+) [Although Jacob has just 180 PAs this year, he's done more with those ABs then ANYONE in baseball. What does Oakey Dokie have to lose? come on A's, make the call!]
3. Shay Whitcomb SS/3B/2B HOU (.346 Avg, 1.050 OPS, .412 wOBA, 8 HRs, 28 RBIs 12/13 SBs over last 127 PAs) [Over the last 30 days, few have been hotter in AAA than Shay. He has power, he has speed, he can play multiple positions, let's go Stros!]
4. Emiliano Teodo RHP TEX (2.69 FIP, over his last 24.2 IP in AA, 43 K's, 11.7 K/9 but 4.5 BB/9. With FB that consistently hits 98, don't be surprised to see Teodo skip AAA. But if he is promoted to Round Rock before Arlington, it is only to work on his control]
5. Nacho Alvarez SS ATL (.349 Avg, 1.010 OPS, .443 wOBA, 5 HRs, 19 RBIs last 98 PAs) [Nacho is shooting up our board after being omitted just a week ago. ATL announcing it won't look at Nacho at SS was/is perplexing. We'd make the call]
6. Andres Chaparro 1B/3B AZ (where does AZ put all these guys? .376 Avg, .425 wOBA, 6 HRs, 21 Runs, 26 RBIs over last 108 PAs)
7. Adrian Del Castillo C AZ (.326 Avg, .439 wOBA, 7 HRs, 26 Rs, 15 RBIs, last 119 PAs) [yes, not the best positional utility or need for AZ, but he's earned it]
8. Deyvison De Los Santos 1B/3B AZ In AAA, this year, the 21 y.o. has hit:
174 PAs | 12HRs | 27 Runs | 42 RBIs | 5.2% BB | 24.1% K | .315 ISO | .296 Avg | .396 wOBA | 124 wRC+ |
9. Brad Lord SP WAS (2.80 FIP, 15 IP-AAA, 17 K's, 1 HR allowed, 3 BBs) [The quintessential throw strikes, pepper the zone, don't walk anyone pitcher, but Brad can also conjure up a 95 mph FB on occasion]
10. Braxton Ashcraft SP PIT (2.43 FIP, 18.1 IP-AAA, 13 K's, 14 H's allowed, 4 BBs) [Braxton was just activated from the minor league IL, and threw just 3 innings in his first start back so he'll need a few starts to build back up. But we like the high octane stuff, topping at 97.7 and averaging 95.3 on his FB]
11. Jeter Downs 2B NYYY (.339 Avg, .380 wOBA, 3 HRs, 12 runs, 13 RBIs, 8/11 SBs, over his last 73 PAs. Does NYY want to bring back ghosts of Jeter past while also trying an offensive upgrade at 2B?)
12. Zebby Matthews SP MIN (1.72 FIP, 32 K's over his last 29.2 IP-AA, 0.7 BB/9, 10.2 K/9)
13. Robinson Pina SP PHI (3.10 FIP over last 26 IP-AA, 1.3 BB/9, 9.9 K/9 rate)
14. Riley Tirotta 3B TOR (.256 Avg, .428 wOBA, 7 HRs, 18 Runs, 16 RBIs, 2/2 SBs over his last 101 PAs in AAA)
15. Ryan Ward 1B/OF LAD (.255 Avg, .410 wOBA, 7 HRs, 17 runs, 17 RBIs, 2/3 SBs over the last 114 PAs but 29%K rate)
